ICT Minister Meets Egypt Post New Board of Directors

بلدنا نيوز الاقتصادي

The Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat has met with Egypt Post’s newly appointed Board of Directors (BoD), chaired by Egypt Post Chairperson Dalia Elbaz, at its premises in Smart Village.

In his remarks, the ICT Minister thanked the former Board members for their efforts and expertise, which played a pivotal role in developing the operational system of Egypt Post. He also congratulated the newly appointed Board members.

Talaat noted Egypt Post is one of the country’s longest-standing institutions, having been established in 1865—ten years prior to the founding of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), of which it became a longstanding member. He explained that over a legacy spanning nearly 160 years, Egypt Post has achieved tangible accomplishments and progress across multiple fields. The most defining feature of this legacy, he added, has been building the trust of Egyptian citizens, given that Egypt Post serves as a one-stop shop for several governmental and postal services.

Talaat also pointed out that the efficient delivery of services to citizens has reinforced this trust, which is reflected in citizens’ strong uptake of newly introduced services. He expressed his aspiration to strengthen and build upon this trust, ensuring that Egypt Post continues as a leading institution locally, regionally, and internationally.

The ICT Minister also reviewed Egypt Post’s developments over the past seven years. He highlighted that the total number of post offices has reached 4,651, with more than 85% of offices across different governorates having been upgraded. He added that Egypt Post is nearing completion of its targets across the three phases of the Decent Life project.

Since 2018, the ICT Minister emphasized that approximately 1,000 postal outlets have been established, including 770 offices, postal kiosks, and mobile post offices, alongside the deployment of 3,000 ATMs. He explained that ATMs are now available in nearly 70% of post offices nationwide. The ICT Minister also underscored that these efforts enhance Egypt Post’s capacity to expand the rollout of financial, governmental, and postal services and offer service packages aligned with the needs of Egyptian citizens.

Talaat pointed to the Wassalha service launched by Egypt Post to promote e-commerce. He highlighted that more than 47 logistics centers have been established to support and deliver postal services to citizens through automated systems. In addition, the Egyptian Postal Museum has been renovated, with its exhibits increased by approximately threefold, positioning it among the best postal museums at the regional and international levels.

Furthermore, the ICT Minister affirmed that Egypt Post is undergoing comprehensive development to expand digital transformation and financial inclusion services. He pointed out that the coming phase will involve implementing more projects that build on this development path.

During the first meeting of the newly appointed BoD, Egypt Post Chairperson expressed her gratitude to the former Board members for their contributions to these achievements. She also welcomed the new Board members.

For her part, Elbaz outlined the key aspects of Egypt Post’s development in recent years. She emphasized that Egypt Post has achieved numerous accomplishments through investment in upgrading post offices, offering integrated products and services, and introducing new services that have helped restore its strategic role in line with its significant capabilities.

Moreover, Elbaz stated that Egypt Post aims to expand the provision of non-banking financial services in the coming period, in addition to delivering governmental or financial services for third parties, leveraging its extensive geographic network of post offices. She added that Egypt Post places great emphasis on digital services to attract youth.

Elbaz also pointed to the imminent launch of the “Felousy” application, in conjunction with the upcoming Egypt Post Day, as the first digital platform in Egypt enabling citizens to purchase and redeem investment fund documents via mobile phones. She also referred to the relaunch of “Easy Pay” in cooperation with eFinance to carry out various financial transactions seamlessly via mobile phones.

It is worth noting that the ICT Minister issued a decree this December to form Egypt Post’s BoD, chaired by Egypt Post Chairperson.
